Optical microscope with magnitude x4, photography of the silica thin film coated on a Si wafer.
Technique de réalisation/Apport scientifique :
A 400-500nm thick mesoporous hybrid silica coating was obtained by combining the sol-gel process and dip-coating technique. During template removal and thermal treatment, cracks appear in zones of non-uniform thickness, resulting in an astonishing, colorful reflection of light. The surface energy, adhesion to the substrate, and chemical composition of the film determine the morphology of the cracks.
