Symposium
5th International Symposium for Fatigue Design and Materials Defects
Exploring the Frontiers: Unraveling Challenges in Fatigue Design and Material Defects
Material defects, spanning non-metallic inclusions, pores, micro-shrinkages, surface roughness and beyond, stand at the forefront of our discussions. These defects play a pivotal role in initiating and propagating fatigue cracks, exerting profound impacts on structural integrity. Notably, this topic has gained significant traction, particularly in the wake of emerging additive manufacturing technologies in mass production. The associated surge in concerns regarding its application in critically stressed scenarios has brought these discussions to the forefront.
Key Objectives:
- Enhancing understanding of defect mechanisms
- Assessing the impact of defects on structural integrity
- Devising measures to enhance fatigue properties of materials and components
Contemporary Challenges: Additive Manufacturing and Structural Integrity
The symposium places a special emphasis on the contemporary challenges posed by additive manufacturing. As this technology reshapes mass production, our discussions will delve into its implications, especially in critically stressed applications. Notably, the insights gained from studying defects in traditional applications such as cast alloys and weldments can be invaluable in navigating the challenges of future technologies. For this reason, we warmly welcome contributions from any industrial sector. Together, let’s face the challenges of the future!
